Suzanne Collins

Suzanne Collins is a world renowned writer for children. She began her writing carrier in 1991 with a writing project for shows on children television. Suzanne Collins worked for popular shows like Clarissa Explains it All, Little Bear and The Mystery files of Shelby woo etc on Nickelodeon Kids channel. Suzanne Collins was nominated for the Writers Guide of America for co-writing “Santa Baby”, which was known as a critically acclaimed Christmas special.


James Proimos (A children author) is said to inspire Suzanne Collins to write for kids. They met on a television show names Generation O! The first piece of writing that came from the famous writer was inspired from Alice in the Wonderland. The idea behind the first book “Gregor the Overlander” that later proved to be the best selling series of The New York Times was that with a realistic approach people are likely to fall in a manhole than a rabbit hole and they will surely not find a tea party down there. So the concept of the story was based on what will a person find if not a tea party? She wrote five books of the series in the period of 5 years from 2003 to 2007.

The Hunger Games which is the first book from the trilogy was released in September 2008 by Scholastic Press. This book was an inspiration from the writer’s real life events as her father was in Army and served in the Vietnam War. She says that she was surfing through the television channels when one channel showed the reality show and other had some War news telecasted this gave her the basic idea of the book and she also got inspired by the historical Greek myth of Theseus . Catching Fire was her second book of this serious which was published in September 2009 while the third book was published next year by the end of August. The remarkable thing was that the first two Hunger Games books made 1.5 Million copies printed alone in North America in a short time of 14 months.
Another Significant achievement was a stay period of more than 60 weeks for The Hunger Games to be on The New York Times Best Seller list. Suzanne Collins has achieved many awards, medals, Certificates and titles for her writing efforts.

Suzanne Collins work is appreciated and enjoyed by children and adults both. She has a great fan following and includes people of all ages. She is a media shy person and is not so comfortable on camera and this is the reason you will find very few appearances on television. She only agrees to do interview with a few people she feels comfortable with. Her personality is of a modest person who is not much aware of the technological advancements and is not into tweeting or website management.

Her work for the children will always be remembered in great words. The journey of her splendid inspirational writing continues and it has been reported in The New York Times Magazine that Suzanne Collins is working on a new young adult series.
